Scouts-L Mail Archive for April of 1999: Military Units

I have only been with scouting for a few years. My sons have always been in
units on military posts. What has the military done for us? We had a
building with free utilities, until they decided to tear it down, at our
previous post. At our current duty station, one boy scout unit has a
building, others must hunt around for meeting places and leaders must store
equipment in their own homes. More and more, military posts are cutting
programs for families, and especially youths. There was a time when
soldiers were allowed to take permissive tdy to help with day camp, those
days no longer exist. Scouting is slowly being driven from military bases
across the country. The ACLU doesn't have to sue, the US govt. is cutting
the funding and uncaring commanders are doing the job for them.
Scouting is like Love; the more you share, the more you have.
