Dear Fellow Scouters,
I am posting this on three list and hope you will forgive me.
I have been bothered by the events in Colorado. Of the youth shooting
others. I keep asking why? did this happen and what is happening to the
youth in the United States? What can we do as a society? I have come
up with three things that our youth needs. 1) We need to have stronger
families and be involved with our kids. 2) have some kind of religious
training. and 3) get them involved with the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts.
I don't believe that there is another organization that Scouting that
teaches young people values. Some how we need to reach out to the kids
in our communities and give them the values that scouting teaches. When
I was a youth I worked a Scout Camp in southern Ohio. I worked with an
older gentleman you later became one of the best friends in my life. He
was asked one time why he kept coming back to camp and giving of his
time. (At the time he was 72 yrs old.) He said pointing at the boys in
camp if I can help one of these boys to stay out of trouble or jail than
I and this camp have done their job but went we stop trying to help then
we might as well close the camp down and burn it for its not helping
these boys. That haas been one of the reasons that I have stayed with
Lets give our kids the best program that we can offer so we can help
these boys and girls to be the best they can be. On My Honor I will do
why because CHARACTER COUNTS!
Yours in Scouting!
