Remember Who We are Responsible To

Bobbie Beatson wrote about a PTO that might refuse to continue
to be the Charter Organization. It sounded like the PTO had become
a closed cliquish group rather than a PARENT Teacher Organization.
Sometimes, those entrusted with responsibility to oversee a program forget
where their "power" comes from. They might begin to believe that it is THEIR
program and that the public is there to serve THEM instead of they serving
the public. This can happen with politicians, school principals, PTO
and even Scout leaders.
It might do us all some good, and especially us unit leaders, to
remind ourselves that the packs and troops that we serve in do not belong to
us. The uniforms we wear are not a symbol of our superior position over
Rather, we are there to serve the youth, the families, and the community.
for most of us, we are also there to have fun with our own children.
