I have only followed this thread a bit, so I apologize if I am repeating
Re: Turning 18 Adult vs youth. I have been thru this twice recently.
Once with my son in his troop and once with a scout in our troop.
In both cases the SM (Me in one case) told the other scouts that the scout
was to be addressed as Mr._______ For my son, he prefered it that way and
he was the ONLY Mr. _____ in his troop.
In our troop, the 18 YO youth has his dad in the troop so there are 2
He asked if the scouts could go back to using his 1st name. I told him it
was ok if ok with him.
Re: Convincing the committee and other adults...
Have any of these scouts been to the Scoutmasters Fundamentals course?
(SMF) It is the primary adult training for Boy Scouts. As District
training chair, I have had 2 newly turned 18 Yo's in the last 2 SMF
They added a GREAT aspect to the sessions, being intimately familar with
how a troop is run in REALITY. One was an Eagle, One was not. But they
Both brought terrific input, participation and wisdom to the sessions.
SOOOO I highly encourage any youth that turns 18 and wishes to remain in
the troop and be recognized as an adult to take the next SMF course that
comes their way!
