Charter Organization Woes

The original message under this subject line stated, "We have been chartered by
the elementary school PTO for the last 17 years although they were never
involved as long as I've been in the Pack (4 years now). We also have a new
principal who signed the charter papers before actually being handed the reigns
because the old principal didn't want to do it."
My question is "Why has the principal been signing the charter?" If the pack is
sponsored by the PTO, then, in my opinion, the PTO president is the one who
should be signing the charter as the head of the chartering body, not the school
principal. If the PTO president has to sign the charter each year, then the PTO
will be much more aware of their sponsorship of the pack.
Even at this point, I would suggest that you change the person listed as the
head of the sponsoring institution on your charter renewal form to the PTO
president. You will have to make changes from year to year in the person's name
that is listed on the charter renewal form as PTO president, but it will make
the PTO much more aware that they are sponsoring the pack.
