I am beginning to think we are looking at the problem wrong and the
solution reversed. The issue with the RBTI is that the current training
areas - Utah and South Dakota - are too far away from the bomber bases -
Texas and Louisiana - to conduct effective training. The problem may be
restated to move the bomber bases instead of the training areas.
Both Utah and South Dakota have (or had prior to the recent defense
cuts) USAF bases; the people who live in the impacted area are already
impacted; maybe they should reap the economic benefits as well. Then the
only people upset are the people in Texas and Louisiana that enjoy
having bomber crews fly over their houses (on their way to training
somewhere else). On top of that, the taxpayers would save money because
the Air Force wouldn't have to build a new training area or base.
One man's opinion, I could be wrong.
