At ebay you are buying the item from someone, not ebay. I would suggest you
use the feedback area, there you can see what others have to say about the
person you want to buy from (does he take several weeks to send, ect...),
there is a feedback section for buyers and sellers. Although I haven't
bought anything there yet, I know several people who have and still do. At
ebay the usual method of payment is check/money order sent to the seller so
you don't have to worry about giving your credit card numbers online.
At other places, such as www.onsale.com, you are buying from the company.
At atleast some of these places you can pay using your credit card online,
payment options will vary from place to place, and this is usually safe(just
use some common sense, check you bill at the end of the month, use a
known/respected place). I know people who buys lots of stuff like this with
no major complaints.
