Every time I watch someone who is handicapped I learn something.
We had a scouter who's left arm was off just above the elbow take
Woodbadge a few years ago. When the patrol insignia were passed out you could
hear the complaining, but (I'll call him) Bob didn't seem a bit fazed. He
shucked out of his shirt, flattened the sleeve onto a table, anchored the patch
to the sleeve with his stump, stuck a needle into the table to thread it, tied a
one handed knot and began to sew the patch to his uniform. He finished, took a
few extra stitches to secure the loose ends and put the shirt back on. The whole
procedure only took a few minutes, and the sewing job lasted for the whole
