That's not true. I had not talked about the bombers with anyone until two
days ago, when two Scouts from the neighborhood who are friend with my son
were at our house. They asked me if I had heard. They were very upset.
They had both attended Philmont last year and were absolutely astounded that
anyone could even consider a program like this over Philmont.
Perhaps their level of shock was related to the fact that they have been
taught that wilderness experiences are supposed to be just that. In our
troop no electronics of any type are permitted by Scouts on any campout,
summer camp, or high adventure trip. They saw the bombers as very
incompatible with that tradition.
Yes, I believe they would love to observe the bombers doing their thing at
another time, another place, but Philmont is not that place. Yesterday, I
passed on their concerns in an e-mail to my congressman. Please register
two complaints from one Eagle Scout and one Life Scout.
