BPs "hat brush"

The "hat brush" refered to in a recent posting is a plume. The Scout
Association (UK) used plumes to denote the office of an adult leader.
Red plume = SA, Green plume = SM, green & white plume = Group SM,
purple plume = District commissioner.
The use of plumes to denote position was eliminated and British
socurters no longer wore any indication of their position from some
time in the 70s.
