There are four alternatives unders consideration for MBTI:
Alternative A, the No Action Alternative (I believe this would maintain =
the existing routes in Nevada and Southern Utah)
Alternative B, Instrumental Route (IR) 178, Lancer MOA and Alternative =
C, IR-178, Texon MOA, both primarily in southwest Texas, and Alternative =
D, IR-153, Mt. Dora MOA in northeastern and northcentral New Mexico =
(Alternative D is the one that involves Philmont).
The training is not currently being conducted over Philmont, it is being =
considered as a site. It is not only the Boy Scouts that are concerned =
about this training, many of the residents in the area are also strongly =
against it. =20
As for why the adults are the ones complaining - I assume they make up =
most of the people on this list. It is also likely that many of the =
people responding have been to Philmont, and would understand the =
potential impact this would have on the area. While it is true that =
some boys might enjoy the site of bombers conducting training runs, they =
are only there for a relatively short time. The people who live in that =
area year-round might feel differently.

You know, this is all very great, but I am afraid that letters to your
elected officials--without a SOLUTION included--are not going to change =
You can't just say "I don't think you should fly over Philmont anymore",
because the first question from top Air Force leaders (the first of many =
which you won't be able to provide a sufficient answer to) will be =
where do you think we SHOULD train?" I doubt that very many SCOUTS-L =
have the knowledge to even suggest another range. I know I sure don't.
Besides, there is a reason the aircraft are flying in that location =
that!). The same type of reason our arctic survival school is in
Alaska...why our water survival school is in Florida...why our jungle
survival school was in the Philippines. We try to train in the =
that we might be based in or deployed to.
I'm sure that the wildlife has adapted to hearing the planes fly =
I'm guessing that most are just mad that Philmont isn't as far removed =
civilization as they want it to be. I suggest you enjoy as much as you =
given the circumstances.
The world is becoming a smaller place...
