I love telling this story when recruiting volunteers:
A man is walking on the beach and sees another man throwing something back
into the ocean. When he gets closer, he notices that the man is throwing a
starfish, one at a time, back into the ocean. The first man looks around and
sees thousands of starfish everywhere on the beach. He says to the man,
"what are you doing?" The man says, "I'm throwing these starfish back in the
ocean so they won't die." The first man says, "you can't possibly save all
of them. There are so many of them. There is no way that you can make a
difference. Who cares?" After the man throws back another starfish, he says,
"Made a difference to that one".
You never know in which child's life you can make a difference.
