Jay Thal shared with the group a little about Akubra hats. In Australia,
the brand name Akubra has become almost a generic name for a broad brimmed
felt hat, regardless of the actual manufacturer (it is not uncommon to hear
scouts refer to their "Johnson" hats as "Akubra", or police officers to use
the name Akubra when referring to their broad-brimmed "bush hats")
Incidentally, the famous Australian Army "slouch hat" (or, in backwards
army QM terminology, Hat, Khaki Fur Felt) is traditionally made from rabbit
fur felt, and some (but not all) are manufactured by the Akubra company.
