For instance, chickens were mostly for laying eggs. They were not served
regularly at the table, unless you were wealthy, in which case you probably
had a servant to take care of the messy butchering chores.
There were other factors of the "good old days" which you probably wouldn't
want to recreate on your outing. Baskets for packs (been there, done that,
never want to do it again). Unpurified water. Lack of sanitation. No
bleach in the rinse water. <vbg>
