Subject: Starting a fire w/flint & steel: urls or tips?
Anybody have any suggestions on where I might find such information on
the internet, such as the fundamentals involved, tips on what material
to use, or vendors who might be willing to part with their products
for only a few $, etc.?
Jay, and anyone else who is interested,
Several months ago I was looking for this information and came upon
James Townsend and Sons, inc. They have a web site at
http://www.jastown.com . They sell all types of 18th century-style
clothing and equipment. They have flint for $.50 a piece. They also
have a booklet called "Making Fire with Flint and Steel" for a buck,
and a video for $10.00. They also have a kit, containing all the
above, plus charcloth, flax for tinder, and a couple tin boxes for
storage for $18.00. If you are already an expert with flint and
steel, you may want to check out the Townsend site for some of the
other interesting things. BTW, I have no connection to Jas. Townsend,
other than being a satisfied customer.
