When I was a Scoutmaster in NY during the 1970's our Scouts had some
"different" patrol names. These included the "Himalayan Kiangs," The Empire
State Patrol" (guess what there patrol flag displayed), and my personal
favorite, the "Birds of Fire." Their name and patrol flag design were taken
from and album of John McClougin's Mahavishnu Orchestra. Good gosh. Back to
the 70's when most of the Scouts had hair longer than their sisters (and
sadly, I was in the first throes of male pattern baldness).
The names were unsusual. The Scouts were terrific. Good days!
