The best long term success we have had with snowshoe building is by
building out of Gil Gilpatrick's book. The resulting snowshoes are of
very high quality, and our "Troop Snowshoes" will be here through hard
use for at least the next 30 years.
Gil's book is difficult to find, but it can be purchased directly from
his website at http://www.maineguide.com/sportsmen/gil/books.html
We do one thing differently than Gil. We do not boil the frames befor
ebending, we steam them. Using a two burner camp stove, a large roasting
pan across both burners with a radiator hose attached through a hole in
the top, we steam our frames in a section of metal stove pipe. It works beautifully.
