It's rechartering time for Pack 287, the first since I became CC. I've been
filling out paperwork all night and came across a situation that set me to
First, a bit of background: My CR is "retiring" after seeing her son
through the Webelos program. She was, I thought, a WL as well as CR.
Nope. No can do. According to one of the many pieces of information I've
seen tonight, only the IH, CC and CM may hold two positions (one being the
CR). Our CR was registered as that. Her "assistant" in the Webelos den was
registered as the WL.
Now the question: Is it prudent for the CC to also be CR? Since new leaders
require the signature of the CC and either the IH or CR, if the CC is also
the CR there really is only one set of eyes reading the leader application.
That just doesn't seem right to me. I would rather that ANY other leader
(including WL's, WA's, DL's and DA's) be CR rather than the CC. I think the
potential of unethical behavior on behalf of the CC is multiplied when the
CC is also the CR.
Another question (this one a CYA): Is there any additional liability taken
on by the CC if he/she is also CR?
