Been there, done that ... Our Troop had a similar problem and after
contacting Eureka, their instruction was to open the zipper and then use
a pair of pliers and GENTLY squeeze the body of the slider (parallel to
the zipper not from the sides). You have to be careful, and squeeze a
little then test the zipper, and repeat as necessary. If you squeeze
too much you will crush the zipper and not be able to use it at all. The
explanation was that the nylon (and dirt and grim) gradually wears the
metal slider so that it doesn't gripe as tight. If that fails, Campmor,
REI and many other companies sell a zipper repair kit that is basically
a bunch of different size sliders. Its pretty easy but not real fun to
replace one if the squeeze doesn't work (or if like me you happen to
squeeze one too much).
BTW, if you will instruct your Scouts to use the slider to open the
tents instead of grabbing the corner of the door and pulling it open,
the sliders will work better, longer.
