Thanks to all who have replied to me so far. It's nice to know that
we're not the only ones that have to deal with a difficult parent.
Many of you hit the nail on the head when you focused in on her
motives. This is also the same parent who was trying to recruit a boy
into Scouts by telling the boy's parents that if he goes to Boy Scouts
and gets his Eagle he'll be eligible for all kinds of scholarships
(true but so far away from what Scouting is about I don't know whether
to laugh or cry).
Today the District Executive called me back. He said that there was a
meeting last night of the Council Advancement Committee (what timing!)
and they went over the information I had faxed him. Many thanks again
to Paul Wolf and the extensive work he did in posting all the
requirements line by line comparing the old to the new. If you haven't
seen it yet check it out at:
Anyway, the result of the Committee meeting was that the Council has
designated April 1 as the day the new requirements go into effect. The
Scouts have from now until then to finish up earning awards using the
old requirements although they may start using the new ones at
This will also help prevent any questions about what activities to
schedule for Webelos Woods, Resident camp and Camporee.
We already had copies of the new requirements ready to hand out Monday
night at the den meeting so it looks like we're ready to roll.
Thanks again for your thoughts and ideas and most importantly your
