Also, what is your take on Cubs on the water, i.e. canoes and kayaks?
We have a small stream fed pond (some call a small lake), an earthen dam
w/spillway. I know some camps allow Cubs on the water as long as they
have passed the swimming test and are with a parent. >>
I firmly believe in the progressive program of Cub Scouting, and believe that
canoes and kayaks should NOT be offered to Cub Scouts. They have plenty of
things for their own age and skill level to keep them occupied. If we offer
too many "high adventure" activities to them too young, they will have nothing
to look forward to as Boy Scout. Canoes and kayaks are really Boy Scout
