When I was doing Board of Reviews, I encouraged the Scouts to call me at home
and request a Board of Review or ask me during the Scout meetings. I did not
like prescheduled Board of Reviews because then a Scout would come up on that
date and just state he needed a review instead of making arrangements. The
BOR are to also teach a Scout to seek that rank advancement.
I liked immediately recognition that meeting. In another troop we kept extra
patches also. It worked great...They were recognized once by their
peers...which is really important...and then again in the Court of Honor.
When I moved to another state....they were totally against all of this. I've
seen both ways..and have seen better results with scheduling BOR when a Scout
asked for one....along with immediate recogntion..not waiting till the Court
