The requirement for a parental date of birth is most likely there to allow
later authentication of you as a user in the event that you forget a
password or need to make a change to your access credentials. Many "net"
systems use a similar method requesting mother's maiden name, state of
birth, etc. to have someway for you to have an easy to remember item to
authenticate that you are the holder of an account. In most cases it really
doesn't matter what date or information that you supply so long as you
remember what you told them and can supply that same bit of info at a later
time if needed.
