Update on Jim Ventner
Sun, 7 Feb 1999 02:24:19 PST
(This message was sent out late Friday evening, is being repeated here
for the benefit of the many who have asked to be kept updated on Jim's
>>I am sorry I am this late getting back in here, but it's been ONE of
>>those Fridays, you know what I mean.
>>OK, Here we go...I have some new information that I want to share
>>with you about Jimmy. First of all, the sheriff's department who is
>>investigating this believes that Jimmy was set-up from the get-go.
>>They found plenty of cigarette butts and footprints by a set of
>>nearby boulders, they think the some of "the gang" hid behind the
>>rocks, while the "family" of four pretended to be broken down.
>>Right now the popular theory is, he stopped to help "the family",
>>the other goons rushed him, beat him, robbed him and left him for
>>As of yesterday noon, Jimmy was still critical, but stable.
>>The 12-hour surgery that lasted a total of 2 days, was called
>>"successful" insofar as what it accomplished.
>>Jimmy has a long, long way to go yet.
>>He has multiple cuts and bruises, a broken left leg, his spleen was
>>removed, his left eye orbit is shattered and they don't know yet,
>>about the vision in this eye. His bodily functions are working, he
>>is conscious, and right now he wiggles his left pinky for yes.
>>This beautiful young man does not deserve this, no human being does.
>>Please, everyone, join us in praying for Jimmy, for his ever-
>>increasing strength, and for a total recovery.
Thanks to the many, many people who have emailed us about Jim, he does
know of our support, I pray that his strength returns soon.
On this Scout Sunday, 1999, I would like to wish all of my Scouter
friends here on "The L", at home, and so many wonderful friends around
the globe, a day of peace and reflection.
Join me please in re-dedicating ourselves to our purposes in Scouting,
and what we mean to the talented young men we are guiding.
