I, too, have had a similar, disappointing experience. I ordered an item from the catalog on behalf of the boys in the troop as a present for the Scoutmaster at the beginning of December. Despite numerous calls to the 800 number, with increasingly disgusted messages, and despite a promise that the item would be delivered to me by January 8, I have yet to receive it.
I also ordered a sample issue of the magazine, which is beautifully done. I sent in a subscription last fall, but have yet to see another issue.
Calls to Scouter Mag are most often answered by a voice mail attendant, and my calls have never been returned. Only once was I able to speak with an actual person (the one who promised delivery of the gift by January 8).
Again, I find this very disappointing. The magazine, the catalog, and the website all offer very interesting and useful items, but the service is awful -- in my experience, non-existent. Caveat emptor!
