penalise a kid who is afraid of swimming ?
I totally agree. We had a young man in our troop that told the leaders that
he would not be an eagle scout because he is deathly afraid to swim. They
contacted all the appropriate people and the scout was interviewed. They
asked how would he help someone drowning if he himself could not swim. His
reply was use a long branch, rope, ect... to get to the victim.
I am proud to say that the young man did earn his eagle and has been a very
good role model for the younger scouts and when he turned 18 he volunteered to
be an assistant scoutmaster so he could continue to be in scouting.
