Reminds me of a story of an unpopular officer. The enlisted men lined up
twenty feet apart and deliberately walked past him, each saluting
individually as they went past. Of course, protocol dictated that he must
return each salute; they each gave one salute, he ended up with a very
tired arm. I always thought this would be a suitable penalty for some of
the officers I met who would get (IMO) excessively zealous about ensuring
that they received the appropriate compliment on every possible occasion.
