I found this on the Texas Parks and Wildlife site, on the following
CHALLENGE the students to use a cricket as a thermometer using the
following formulas --
Count the number of chirps in 15 seconds and add 40 to get the
Count the number of chirps in one minute, divide by 7 and add 4 to get
the Celsius temperature.
As David C. Kramer of St. Cloud University has said, "Crickets are
trying to change from English to metric, but they are presently
operating under both systems."
OK, it's probably more funny to the engineering and science types.
As a plus, this site also includes lots of activities, and tells kids
what to take with them on an outdoor hike in case they get separated
from the group.
