Thanks to everyone that answered my inquiry about certification for rifle
ranges. I had a lot of responses and it did give me a lot of information.
A few people asked me to post a summary of the response so I am.
I found out that NRA is the one who usually administers the courses for BSA
at National Camp School to have the rifle range at summer camp. GSS is
what you should use but Council can tighten the guidelines because there
may be slight differences like which position the scouts are allowed to
shoot from. BSA requires prone where NRA teaches all positions. I still
don't know yet if the council will allow NRA certification alone without
the summer camp training for a weekend activity but am trying to find out.
Basically they are the same thing and some people said that NRA training is
sufficient in their council and also, it might depend on who owned the
range, the council or privately owned, as to which is required.
There is a web page for National Camp school but I didn't get an address
and had no luck finding it. Anyone know what it is??
