Well, I'm not a policeman. The Insignia Guide is for use by Scouts
and Scouters. Haven't seen the position of BSA Uniform Police in any
books yet. (Where can I get the patch? ;-))
Uniform Police seems to me to be a negative thing. Let's not use it,
OK? BTW - David, you asked the question, and you got the answers, so
please don't use negative terminology about those who responed to YOUR

Uh, it's the Cub Scout Leader Book (#33221), not Den Leader Book. It
has info for Den Leaders, Cubmasters, and Committee folks. This is
THE primary resource for Cubbers. It does a much better job of being
an all-around guide than any other publication BSA puts out, with only
the Guide to Safe Scouting coming close to it.
BOTH are correct - BOTH are OFFICIAL BSA publications.
It's the same as using the Guide to Safe Scouting (#34416A). The GSS
DOES NOT give the full detail of everything contained therein. One
must also use the related publications for the complete detail (i.e.
Tours and Expeditions (#33735), Health & Safety (#34415), etc). This
is why the Commissioner is such a valuable resource for Scouters.
Commissioners should know what the different publications are, and
while they may not know everything in every book, they should at least
know them well enough to research them to answer questions such as
those posed by David.
>Mike Walton pointed out that a new Insignia Guide is in the works.
Well, new guides come out every 2-3 years, normally. But it doesn't
matter - the Insignia Guide has not comprehensively addressed all
insignia issues since it has been in print, and probably never will.
National can always do better, but it is a big job in a big
organization. Again, all the other publications are official, and
each carry the same weight in my mind.
