Good post Jim!! I wouldn't remove him either. Our jobs as adults are to
help these young men to grow up to be leaders and better citizens. Let's look
at the situation if he is removed. What will that young man have learned?
Only that if you do something wrong, you will be punished. I would urge all
of us to remember that we play a very important role in shaping the lives of
our scouts. We need more time spent as mentors. If the SM sits down and
explains the importance of being SPL and how this one scout's behavior will
have an impact the rest of the troop, maybe he can solve the problem. Does it
take longer? You bet, but we are not building widgets here, we are building
up young men. I think it is worth it.
