I realize that your responce was half in jest..but..... doesn't anyone
SM ask a Scout to tie a knot during a confrence?... I know there is a
lot of thought that an SM should not re-test all of the skills required
for each level but nothign wrong in making sure that the Scout can
actually tie a knew.... or do somethign for 1st aid rather than fully
trusting the initials of his best friend Billy who is his patrol leader.
If the SM does not do this he is abrogating his duties.
This is going to horrify many, but an SM confrence in our troop for 1st
class lasts about two hours... and often the Scout is told to come back
after a little practice....
what are the results of this..?.
while we are not at all a gung-ho troop.... I woudl like to quickly
mention how we did at a recent camporee...
Competing at the Camporee were 42 partols from two disricts in our
council... two of these patrols were from our troop....
there were 14 events and each event was worth up to 10 points.....
events included a menu/cooking competion... knot tieing... pioneering
stuff... uniforms.. you get the picture.....
at the end of the day two patrols had amazingly tied for first place with
identical scores of 119.4........ our two patrols...
we had only about 3 first places in the total of 28 events (2 X 14) but
overall we scored well in each event...
this was totally without any pr-camporee practice whatso ever... just on
the attitude (good uniforms) and excellent basic skils provided by the
watchfull eye of our SM...
