Oh, I don't know about that. I see the conference as more of a quiet time
to just sit & talk with the boy. I don't get to do that as often as I'd
like. I get to know them a little better, find out what they think of how
the Troop is doing, etc. We do a little goal-setting for the next
advancement, badges, Troop activities, etc.
Rarely do I ask them to demonstrate a specific skill. I usually have a
fairly good idea of how they're doing and I can tell by the initials in the
book if the person who signed them off knows their stuff.
As for length of the conference, it depends on how busy we are, how the
conversation goes, & how long since their last one. The most recent
conference I did (Tuesday for a 2nd Class) was very short because I'd just
spent a fair amount of time with him on Saturday in a Tenderfoot conference.
