Our district has considered switching to the spring instead of fall. From the
Scouting standpoint this would seem to make sense because in the fall we are
getting a lot of new Cub leaders, and this seems to be a really big thing to
throw at them just a month or so after they have joined. However, the local
food bank has begged us not to since the winter months are when they have the
greatest food needs.
So, we bring new leaders up to speed real fast. My only concern is that by
doing it on the same weekends year after year, the other charities know
exactly when to schedule their food/clothing drives to take advantage of us.
I think our council should consider changing fall dates around from year to
year to keep them confused.
Just my two cents on a Friday morning. Oh, and I have to brag a minute.
Other districts in our council have been experiencing a decline in food
donations in their areas; whereas the district for which I am coordinator has
seen a steady increase and this year we had a 38% increase. Wahoo!!
