I would like to offer a different slant on the Flag Burning Ceremony, and in
suggest doing one. This past summer at the closing campfire, the OA conducted
a flag burning ceremony that was spectacular and moving.
With the campfire lit and as the closing, a scout read a poem titled the Flag
(I think <g>), once he was done they had a cd of a song title 'Proud to Be an
they had each OA member walk in and respectfully retire the flag by placing
the bon fire. They must have been stockpiling the flags as the cd repeated
3 times before they were done.
It was quite amazing, a hush fell over the entire crowd, there was not so much
as a single whisper that was uttered from the over 325 scouts and scouters
