I've followed this thread with great interest,
and there have been many good points raised on
My own personal opinion is that troop tents are
best, because I don't want any boy to miss out
on the camping experience, and I want to avoid
as much as possible the problems of "gear envy"
where the more well-off scouts end up with
classy, expensive tents. Just as the uniform
is a class leveler, the use of troop and patrol
equipment can avoid problems.
I also agree that the QM is a tough, important
job. It's the SM"s job to make sure that an
adult doesn't step in and do things that the
youth can do.
