I have one in front of me dated 1997 Revision. It shows Historian in
the list of positions.
Now Hear This: The list on the form DOES NOT MATTER. Why? Because
of what we see here: Different versions over time. Yes, we should
use the most up to date form, and I believe it is the responsibilty of
the Council and District Advancement team to ensure all have the most
recent material to work with - that is part of THEIR commitment to the
Scouts and Scouters.
What does matter? The current copy of the Boy Scout Requirements book
(currently BSR 1998, #33215A, 1998 Revision). This is the definitive
source. If you are working with advancement team members that do not
uderstand the importance of the current BSR, those team members need
to adjust their thought process! I know I sound a bit stern in this
statement, but over the past few months confusion has been rampant
over "he said, she siad, I heard...". ENough I say!
The CURRENT and ONLY AUTHORIZED requirements for Boy Scout Advancement
are those shown in the CURRENT (1998) Boy Scout Requirements book.
This is the source, this is what we should be using. ANything else or
less does not give the SCOUTS the quality they deserve.
Specific to this question: On page 8 of the 1998 BSR, the position of
Historian IS LISTED as an acceptable Eagle leadership poistion for
requirement #4. Therefore, it matters not what any District or
Council advancement team members says, what matters is what the
currrent National policy is, as stated in the current BSR.
