With regard to the management of ANY troop equipment, I think Barry is
right on target. Many times we look for "the definitive" or "the best"
answer to our common problems. And sometimes there just isn't one. All we
can do is look at what we're teaching....gosh, we all know that sometimes
scouts learn by making some real dingies of mistakes. Sometimes it costs
the troop money. Even if they boys learn SOME responsibility from taking
care of their assigned patrol equipment and if the elected troop
quartermaster corp learn SOME aspects of responsible behavior from issuing
and maintaining troop equipment in SOME fashion, then that is desireable.
We don't always learn the lesson in its entireity or in one big chunk of
BLUE SKIES!, Any day above ground is a good day!
