Kelly Parker asked:
"Comments or ideas from the list? Any defense for Beavers who won't sing?"
Regarding the Wood Badge song being quashed at some none Woodbadge
Let me say that as a Beaver and Staffer there is no sweeter sound to my
ears than the sound of an enthusiastic rendition of "Back to Gillwell."
IMHO the song should be sung at an appropriate time and place, though.
I strongly feel that we should be mindful of the feelings of others and
not give the impression that we are a bunch of loony WB types, which of
course we really are.
Seriously, one of the strongest recruiting tools for Wood Badge can be
our demonstrations of WB spirit. On the other hand we can easily
turn off potential WB participants by appearing to treat Wood Badge
as a club of "good ol' critters." Taking over the program to sing
the -Song- without advance arrangement could be seen as rude and
elitist. Certainly not the kind of impression I want to make.
Perhaps some advance planning with whoever is setting the agenda
could get a WB recruiting activity like the Wood Badge Song included.
I'll bet there are many other creative and sensitive ways to express
Wood Badge spirit that have been or could be devised by this group.
I'd like to hear about 'em.
