Is coffee a drug? Most definitely not. Is caffeine a drug? Most definitely
yes. And I realize that many people drink coffee, tea and sodas and aren't
addicts, drink alcohol and aren't alcoholics and can smoke an occasional
(trendy) cigar (barf, barf) and not be addicted. Can they become addictions?
Yes. Is the social usage of caffeine is the real issue on the list? No. It
is the concern about the wrong message being sent to the kids.
So stop with all the varieties of "can't live without it" jokes and
comments. Parents and other role models (read that to include Scouters)
should cool it on coffee humor. The ingestion of a drug is no laughing
matter and joking about an addiction of any kind is not the message to send
to impressionable kids.
