You coffee hounds are going to love this.
In the Grand Canyon there is a stone that floats. I don't remember the
name, but you can start to find some around day three of the trip. First
commercial guide up starts the coffee first thing! Usually there are 2-3
people milling around right after you light up the propane stoves. We use
the river method. Five handfuls in a big pot. After finding one of the
floating stones you pocket one and the first time someone asks if the coffee
is ready you through a real stone in the pot. It sinks and you say nope,
not yet. Do this two or three more times and then eventually you through
the floating stone in. It of course floats and you yell "Coffee!"
Consumption we have found drops dramatically after that.
