Ritilan - the next street drug of choice?

No, this is not a comment on ADD kids.
In a recent conversation with a neighbor of mine, a former town police
officer, turned DEA officer, I asked him if he would come do a Drug Awareness
session with the boys at a Troop meeting. He said he would be thrilled to,
and would I mind if he brought along his partner and their drug dog, and would
he be able to set up a demonstration with the dog. I said that would be great!
He then he asked if there were any boys in the troop taking ritilan. I said
yes. He told me to make sure they did not bring any medication with them to
this particular meeting. This surprised me a bit, so I asked him why.
It turns out that one of the hottest "new" street drugs in our area is
ritilan. This is a stimulant, and if taken in higher than the recommended
dosage causes quite a high - followed by quite a crash according to my DEA
friend. There have even been overdoses recently in the local hospital. The
DEA's dogs are now being trained to sniff out ritilan in addition to the other
common street drugs.
Apparently in the local area there are a number of kids who receive ritilan by
prescription who have found it to be quite lucrative to resell it rather than
take it themselves. The street price is $2-$5 a pill. I don't know what the
prescription price is.
I just thought I would share this with you. I have already shared it with the
parents of the boys in my troop who have admitted to being ADD/ADHD and on medication.
