Actually, Giardia particles are slightly heavy and will sink if allowed to, so
you are far better off taking your water sample from a quiet surface than a
babbling brook, no matter how charming the brook looks. Even a clear-looking
brook (no visible particulate suspension) can be loaded with Giardia.
