There can be a problem with Iodine though. On extended trips (such as over
2-3 weeks) you can start suffering from having too much Iodine in your
system. This will generally appear as problems with your thyroid, and a
swelling of the throat. On extended trips it is basically necessary to use
a purifier, or another method (boiling) to purify the water.
