A simple database program, such as Access, which more and more people
have at home, thanks to MS Office, can easily track MB Counselors. It
wouldn't be much of a job to setup the tables, forms and then write a
few reports. Off hand I'd suggest two tables. One will have the MB
name, a code (for indexing), and something to indicate whether it's an
Eagle badge. You may also want a field for withdrawal dates, for when
badges are dropped. The second table would have information on the
counselers, address, phone number, etc., and corresponding codes to the
merit badges they cover.
This would allow you "filter" the data to quickly pull up the names of
counselors for one particular badge, counselors in a certain area, or
any other report you deem necessary.
Using the Wizards that come with Access almost anyone could do it. This
seems to be a good way to practice database design. And it doesn't
require any math or calculations that cause most of the problems.
PS: No, I'm not a disciple of Bill Gates. But in my business if you
don't embrace Microsoft you lose most of your customers. Just a FOL.
