Twice in the past four years we at Troop 377 were faced with the unpleasant
duty of telling a boy that he was no longer welcome as a member of our Troop.
In both cases the boys had a long history of disruptive and dangerous
behavior, the parents were consulted, a remedial action was proposed by the
Troop and agreed to by the parents and the scouts. And in both cases the
solution that we agreed to was promptly ignored by the parents and scouts. In
our situation the action that we had to take was very painful because both of
these boys really needed scouting. We as adults of the troop felt as if we had
failed both of these boys, but we believed this was the only action left to us
to. At some point you must choose how many more miles you can go and for us
the choice was not to let one person ruin the program.
