Our Council held its first annual A.C.E.S. (Adult Continuing Education in
Scouting) program yesterday. One of the sessions was dutch oven cooking.
Since the course was held at a school, it was neccessary to keep the fires
up off the ground. One of the presenters is a welder by trade, so he took a
pair of old automobile gas tanks (thoroughly flushed to remove any gasoline)
and removed the tops with a cutting torch. The result was a pair of tubs to
hold his fires (he doesn't believe in charcoal, btw). He set each of the
tubs up on top of a metal milk crate. This worked well and kept a pair of
old gas tanks out of the landfill.
