My husband built our new Pinewood Derby track last year. We simply bought
the plans from our local scout shop. Basically its a wood frame with
aluminum tracks. It made its debut last year and was absolutely fabulous!
Its a very BIG track and brakes down into 6 or 7 pieces. I wouldnt say
it's light weight, but each piece can be carried with relative ease. It
stores very well, since it breaks down into pieces that are each
apprximately 8 feet by 2 feet.
It cost the pack approximately $700 to build. I would say if you're going
to invest a lot of money into a new track that you use a plan, or have a
plan that you know will work well. Some were worried about the cost of
the new track, but if you think about it, we used our last track for at
LEAST 30 years. So it's definitely a long term investment.
Best of luck to you. If you decide to go with the BSA track and would like
to speak to someone who can give support, feel free to email me and I can
get you into direct contact with my hubby.
