I know of it's being done once, with malice aforethought, and the oven
lives in that place wrapped in cooking oil rags in a safe spot ... in a
metal box against critters who might want to gnaw those rags ... and is
available to use as a reward for the effort when the Troop returns. Thus
far the bears have left it alone.
But you are very right that such items do not go for long hikes as a rule.
I will argue with you about coals on aluminum foil plywood on the ground,
vs up in the wind. Coals in a washtub as some have mentioned strike me as
genius at work, in the wind/winter.
