The deadline for using Safety (and Sports) as "required" Merit Badges
for Star, Life and/or Eagle will be March 31, 1999. The New
requirements become effective on April 1, 1999.
If they are/were earned and used as required MB's for Star and/or Life
advancement before 3/31/99, the Scout will be required to list them on
the Eagle Application as Optionals, so the Registrar, Advancement
Committee, Eagle Booard of Review, and Eagle Scout Service can verify
that the earlier requirements were met, when they review the
A similar situation exists if a boy uses both Emerg. Prep and Lifesaving
(and/or a combination of Swimming/Pers. Fitness/Sports and/or
Swimming/Cycling/Hiking before or after 4/1/99) for Star and/or Life
advancement. When he gets to the Eagle Application, he must list one of
them as the required MB, and the other(s) as optional.
ALL EAGLE CANDIDATES MUST EARN PERSONAL FITNESS MERIT BADGE if they have
not completed all current requirements (other than the Eagle Board of
Review) by midnight March 31, 1999.
